In November, AWI hosted an exhibit at the annual symposium of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science—the world’s largest gathering of personnel involved in the production, care, and use of animals in laboratories.

We distributed hundreds of books related to improving the welfare of animals in laboratories and took orders for our newest book, Refinements for Rodents and Rabbits in Research Institutions, which synthesizes the last 15 years of research on welfare improvements to the housing and care of mice, rats, other rodents, and rabbits used in experimentation. Chapters cover best practices for housing, social housing, environmental enrichment, human-animal interaction, and more. Each chapter describes the topic and its relevance to animal welfare, summarizes the recent scientific findings for each species, and provides key takeaways.
