飼育下の 海洋哺乳類 に関する事案
Marine Wildlife「海洋哺乳類の飼育に反対する理由」は、動物園、水族館、海洋テーマパークなどで海洋哺乳類を公開展示することに対する様々な反論を、一般市民、メディア、科学者、学生、そして政策立案者に向けて包括的に解説する資料として、1995年に初めて出版されました。本報告書は序文、13章、そして680以上の脚注で構成され、海洋環境と生態学的に結びついた海洋哺乳類が、なぜ飼育下では繁栄できないのかという包括的な概念と包括的な事例を提示しています。コンクリート製の水槽や小さな囲いでは、沿岸生息地や外洋の複雑さに近い環境を動物に提供することはできません。海洋哺乳類、特にクジラ、イルカ、ホッキョクグマといった大型で広範囲に移動する捕食動物は、飼育下に置くべきではありません。
