Protect America’s Wild Horses from Mass Slaughter and Lethal “Management”
For the second year in a row, the administration’s proposed fiscal year budget omits critical protections to prevent federally protected wild horses and burros from being sold off to commercial slaughter or lethally “managed” to reduce their numbers. This proposal could lead to the mass killing of tens of thousands of these animals, directly contradicting current law. Last year, both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees included these protections in their respective FY26 Interior Appropriations bills, reflecting the American public’s support for our nation’s cherished wild herds. Please urge Congress to maintain this longstanding and essential ban in FY27 Interior appropriations legislation.
