Val Peña
Policy Associate, Companion Animal Program
Val joined AWI in 2020, initially as a communications intern and now as a policy associate with the Companion Animal Program. She manages AWI’s Safe Havens for Pets project, ensuring that this unique resource is up to date and accessible to individuals who require safe housing options for themselves and their pets as they escape from domestic violence or homelessness.
Val earned a BA in political communications and dance from The George Washington University. She has been an animal advocate since childhood and is passionate about improving the lives of animals and strengthening the bond between people and their pets. (She is personally bonded to Zoe, a shih tzu mix.) When not on the job at AWI, she teaches yoga and loves to experiment with plant-based cooking.
