Communications Intern
The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) seeks a remote, part-time, paid communications intern each spring, summer, and fall. This opportunity is open to undergraduate students studying communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related fields, as well as individuals with equivalent experience. Ideal candidates have a demonstrated interest in animal welfare and are seeking introductory experience in nonprofit communications. Interns are expected to be available 10–20 hours per week during standard working hours (Eastern Time), with preference given to applicants with morning availability.
The communications intern will report to AWI’s senior manager of strategic communications. Tasks may include media monitoring, assisting with the research and drafting of social media posts, database updating, writing letters to the editor, completing web development and content management tasks, and other projects as assigned. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who is organized, works well independently, and has a genuine interest in AWI’s work.
